Woody’s heart is best summed up in this statement he wrote in 2017: “I believe everyone counts, everyone matters. I believe there are no “throw-away” persons, everyone is worth saving”. I entered treatment for my addiction in June of '91 and I have remained sober ever since. I found freedom from my shame. I found healing from my childhood abuse and trauma. I found hope and serenity - you can too. I take you as you are - just as those who helped me took me as I was. I don't judge you, I listen to you. I work with you to accomplish the goals you set. There is no need to live in shame anymore - you can find freedom and hope.
SERVICES
I am what is called a Person Centered Therapist. I have training in ACT, DBT, and Gottman Methods for relationships.
I don't take a cookie-cutter approach to therapy - I listen to you. In your sessions with me, you will set goals for what you want to accomplish and together, we will work towards them.
Couples / Relationships / Marriage
and Infidelity and Affairs
Whether you need pre-marriage counseling, improvement in your marriage relationships, or recovery from infidelity - I can help. While I am not a certified Gottman Therapist, I am working to achieve that goal and I have taken several of the required courses so far. I am approved to use the Gottman Relationship Checkup tool, which is an online relationship assessment. I am certified to lead the Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work workshops. I use Gottman Methods in my work with couples. I strongly recommend purchasing your own copy of the Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. If you want to know more about the Gottman Method, visit the Gottman Institute online at: https://www.gottman.com/
SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS (Addictions) and Sex and Porn Addiction
I can't think of too many things that can destroy our lives more than to be caught up in an addiction of any kind. There are two basic types of addictions - Addictions to Substances and Addictions to Processes.
Substances, such as alcohol, meth, crack, heroin, marijuana, stimulants, opioids/opiates - and more are very common in our culture here in the USA. What is not as easily recognized is process addictions. A process addiction is habitual, compulsive behavior or obsessive thoughts. Pornography and sexual relationships are among process addictions. Other process addictions are shopping, gambling, online gaming, social media, and so forth.
All addictions are destructive.
I can help you find freedom from your addictions, like I found for me. It takes courage, determination, and a willingness to change. I use the 12 Steps as an adjunct to therapy and I encourage everyone to attend 12 Step meetings and work with a sponsor.
It might surprise you to know this, but addiction is not your actual problem - it is a problem, but it is not THE problem. It is a way that you have been attempting to deal with your real problem. What is your real problem? Come to therapy and I will help you find out. Together, we will treat the addiction and get to the root cause of your addiction.
I treat several other issues. I work with trauma, grief and loss. I work with mild forms of OCD (More severe forms require someone with specialized training). I work with helping people reduce the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
